| Resumo |
O presente trabalho trata a nasalidade vocálica, comparando o português com o espanhol, estudando palavras cognatas nas duas línguas. O convívio entre as duas línguas provém de suas origens e, muitas vezes, falantes do português e do espanhol têm a impressão de que compartilham um sistema fonético semelhante, devido à grande proximidade linguística. A nasalidade vocálica em língua espanhola é tratada, algumas vezes, como inexistente. Diante disso, foi feita uma revisão da literatura, demostrando diferentes opiniões sobre o fenômeno estudado. Esta pesquisa mostra, através de uma abordagem fonético-descritiva, uma investigação das ocorrências das vogais nasalizadas em português. Em seguida, apresenta um estudo descritivo do sistema fonético das vogais nasalizadas em língua espanhola. Com a finalidade de estabelecer um estudo comparativo entre as duas, no que diz respeito às vogais nasalizadas, mostramos ocorrências de vogais nasais e não nasais, em contextos semelhantes, para ambas as línguas. Os sujeitos da pesquisa são cinco falantes nativos de espanhol e cinco de português (brasileiro). Além da análise auditiva e respectiva transcrição fonética, foi feito um estudo acústico dos casos mais importantes para os objetivos da pesquisa, através de análises realizadas com o programa de análise fonética acústica Praat. O parâmetro privilegiado na análise acústica foi a estrutura formântica das vogais pesquisadas. Os resultados mostraram que, na língua espanhola, também ocorrem vogais nasalizadas em determinados contextos. Isso se revela evidente nas análises acústicas. Por outro lado, a nasalização vocálica em português não ocorre exatamente como é encontrada em espanhol. Um quadro comparativo entre as ocorrências de vogais nasais das duas línguas mostra claramente as diferenças e semelhanças entre elas.

ABSTRACT
This current research approaches the vowel nasality, comparing Portuguese with Spanish, studying the cognate words in both languages. The interaction between the two languages comes from their origins and often Portuguese and Spanish speakers think that they share a similar phonetic system due to the great linguistic proximity. The Spanish vowel nasality sometimes is treated as nonexistent. Therefore, a literature review was done, showing different opinions about the studied phenomenon. This research shows, through a phonetic-descriptive approach, an investigation of the nasalized vowels occurrences in Portuguese. Then, it presents a phonetic system descriptive study of the nasalized vowels in Spanish. In order to establish a comparative study between the two languages, regarding the nasalized vowels, we showed occurrences of nasal and non-nasal vowels in similar contexts for both languages. The research subjects are five native speakers of Spanish and five native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese. In addition to auditory analysis and their respective phonetic transcription, an acoustic study of the most important cases for the research purposes was done through analysis performed with the software Praat for acoustic phonetic analysis. The privileged parameter in the acoustic analysis was the formant structure of the surveyed vowels. The results showed that also in the Spanish language nasalized vowels occurred in certain contexts and this is evident in the acoustic analysis. On the other hand, vowel nasalization in the Portuguese language does not exactly occur as in the Spanish language. A comparative table between the nasal vowels occurrences of the two languages clearly shows the differences and similarities between them.
