RESUMO
A presente tese de Doutorado Direto objetiva investigar que o que se denominou como tradição do duplo (Doppelgänger), desde sua concepção, não se encerra no ser duo, mas sim extrapola a visão dúplice e se fragmenta numa horda de outros, implicando na seguinte hipótese: o duplo nunca foi duplo. Foi a tradição e crítica literárias que tomaram — decidiram — o fenômeno da fragmentação como dois, solifidificando-o em uma relação dialética e estanque, quando, na proposta de tese que intentamos defender, o duplo é uma máscara transiente usada e desgastada por uma legião de outros, uma turba de só-refletir, que não conhece e nem respeita a ordem da identidade. Assim, objetivamos fazer um percurso literário-ficcional pela senda da denominada tradição do duplo destacando e explorando, nesse motivo, o caráter da multiplicidade que potencializa a dualidade nas obras com o intuito de extrair uma nova visão teórico-crítica sobre o duplo e, com isso, rever e ampliar sua definição para além do entendimento temático cristalizado pela tradição teórico-crítica, tomando-o, então, não como um conceito teórico, mas, fundamentalmente, como um operador textual que articula, ao mesmo tempo, tema, forma, estilo de escrita e uma consciência crítico-teórica sobre o fazer ficcional e sobre a condição humana. Em outras palavras, a hipótese aqui levantada e a tese que se pretende defender é de ordem teórico-epistemológica, de modo que o percurso literário-ficcional a ser galgado constitui fonte, exemplificação e comprovação da revisão e ampliação pretendidas. Desse modo, em termos de corpus literário, elegemos as obras “O homem da areia” (1816), de E. T. A. Hoffmann, Frankenstein (1818), de Mary Shelley e O grande deus Pã (1890; 1894), de Arthur Machen; e como corpus ficcional tomaremos as obras Sandman: Prelúdio (2013-2015), de Neil Gaiman, o segundo volume de X-Men Legacy (2012-2014), escrito por Simon Spurrier e Fragmentado (2016), escrito e dirigido por M. Night Shyamalan. A seleção desse corpus literário-ficcional pauta-se pela questão da fragmentação, aspecto fulcral para a pesquisa proposta, a qual denominaremos Legião.

ABSTRACT
his Direct Doctorate thesis aims to investigate that what was denominated as tradition of the double (Doppelgänger), since its conception, does not limit itself at being two. It extrapolates the duplex vision and split itself into a horde of others, implicating in the following hypothesis: the double was never double. Literary tradition and critics took — decided — the phenomenon of fragmentation as two, solidifying it in an airtight, dialectic relation. While, in the thesis proposal we aim to defend, the double is a transient mask used and worn by a legion of others, a multitude of only-reflecting that does not know nor respects the order of identity. Therefore, we intend to take a literary-fictional route through the denominated tradition of the double, highlighting and exploring in such motif the multiplicity aspect that potentialises the duality in the works in order to extract a new theoretical-critical view on the double. In doing so, we aim to revise and broaden its definition beyond the crystallised thematic understanding of the theoretical-critical tradition. We take it, then, not as a theoretical concept, but, fundamentally, as a textual operator that articulates, at the same time, theme, form, writing style, and critical-theoretical conscience on the craft of fiction and the human condition. In other words, the hypothesis in question and the thesis that we intend to defend is of theoretical-epistemological nature, so that the literary-fictional route to be explored constitutes source, exemplification, and proof of the intended revision and broadening. Therefore, in terms of literary corpus, we chose the works “The Sandman” (1816), by E. T. A. Hoffmann, Frankenstein (1818), by Mary Shelley and The Great God Pan (1890; 1894), by Arthur Machen; and as fictional corpus we will take the works The Sandman: Overture (2013-2015), by Neil Gaiman, the second volume of X-Men Legacy (2012-2014), written by Simon Spurrier, and Split (2016), written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The selection of this literary-fictional corpus is guided by the question of fragmentation, fulcral aspect for the proposed project, which we will denominate Legion.
