RESUMO
A criação das instituições escolares de Itápolis (SP) na primeira metade do século XX ocorreu em um contexto caracterizado pela expansão das fronteiras agrícolas, pelo crescimento imigratório e pela construção de ferrovias no oeste paulista. Neste estudo documental e bibliográfico analisamos a criação do Grupo Escolar (1913), a Escola Normal Livre (1929), o Ginásio do Estado (1935) e, por fim, a criação do Instituto de Educação ―Valentim Gentil‖ (1958). Este estudo do conjunto da criação destas instituições traz subsídios para a compreensão do processo de expansão e/ou interiorização do sistema escolar paulista ao situar as inter-relações do poder municipal e poder estadual, isto é, poder local e poder central na criação de instituições escolares no período referido.

ABSTRACT
The creation of school institutions in Itápolis (SP) in the first half of the twentieth century occurred in a context characterized by the agricultural frontiers expansion, immigration growth and the railway construction in the west of São Paulo. In this documentary and bibliographic study we analyzed the School Group creation (1913), the Free Normal School (1929), the State Gymnasium (1935) and, finally, the creation of the Valentim Gentil Institute of Education (1958). This study of the creation of these institutions brings the understanding of the process of expansion and / or internalization of the São Paulo school system by locating the interrelations of municipal power and state power, that is, local power and central power in the creation of institutions in the referred period.
