Resumo: Um novo vocábulo surge com a necessidade de representação de uma nova realidade, mesmo que fictícia. Em Harry Potter, série de sete volumes da Literatura In-glesa Contemporânea escrita por J. K. Rowling, diversos vocábulos foram criados devido à necessidade de caracterização, de um modo um tanto irônico e humorístico, de uma nova realidade: o mundo dos bruxos. A tradução de novos vocábulos na literatura é uma tarefa desafiadora para os tradutores, que, ao encontrarem soluções para sua tradução na língua de chegada, produzem sentidos para representar o universo do texto de par-tida na língua-alvo. No entanto, dado o caráter interpretativo da tradução, ela nunca escapa da hierarquia dos valores culturais do contexto de chegada, sendo, portanto, impossível recuperar integralmente as ideias do autor. Tendo por base esses pressupos-tos, intenciona-se analisar comparativamente os sentidos produzidos pelos principais vocábulos criativos do texto de partida da série Harry Potter com aqueles produzidos por seus correspondentes linguísticos em sua versão traduzida para o português brasi-leiro, bem como verificar se os processos de criação dos vocábulos da versão britânica influenciaram, de certo modo, as escolhas da tradutora na criação de novos vocábulos para a língua portuguesa.

Analysis of the most frequent lexical creations in the translation
of the Harry Potter series into Brazilian Portuguese
Abstract: A new word emerges to represent a new reality, even though fictional. In Harry Potter, a series of seven books by Mrs. J. K. Rowling that belongs to the Contemporary English Literature, several words have been created due to the need to characterise, in rather an ironic and humorous way, a new reality: the wizarding world. The translation of new words in Literature is a challenging task for translators. When finding solutions for the translation of these words into the target language, these translators produce meanings to represent the universe of the source text in the target language. Neverthe-less, as translation is an interpretative activity, it never escapes the hierarchy of cultural values inscribed in the target context. For this reason, it is impossible to recuperate in-tegrally the author’s ideas. Based on these presuppositions, it is intended to analyse comparably the meanings produced by the main lexical creations in the source books of Harry Potter with those produced by the words corresponding to them in its version translated into Brazilian Portuguese. In addition, it is intended to verify if the creation processes of the words in the British version have somehow influenced the translator’s choices to create new words to be used in Portuguese language.
