RESUMO
Neste trabalho investiga-se a construção concessiva do português contemporâneo do Brasil considerando-se que a relação concessiva é um caso complexo de combinação de orações adverbiais que deve merecer atenção na gramática das línguas naturais. A base teórica linguística de exame é a teoria funcionalista da linguagem, a qual reformula o corte rígido entre as tradicionais coordenação e subordinação, observando o nível textual-discursivo e descrevendo a combinação oracional com envolvimento dos aspectos sintáticos, semânticos e pragmáticos. Valiosos aportes da Linguística Cognitiva são invocados e considerados para aclarar e dirigir a análise da concessividade, em permeação com as direções de análise sustentadas pela Linguística Funcional, e na direção de abrigar, no exame, a (inter)subjetividade, categoria por hipótese imbricada na expressão do pensamento concessivo. O corpus de análise compreende ocorrências de relação concessiva nas modalidades falada e escrita do português contemporâneo do Brasil, sem que se fixe como objetivo do trabalho pesquisar especificamente diferenças entre as duas modalidades, mas com a hipótese de que a complexidade da relação concessiva não poderia representar-se da mesma forma nessas duas modalidades de língua. Os objetivos abrangem: a investigação da natureza da categoria concessividade na linguagem; a verificação, no uso, dos valores lógico-semânticos dessa categoria; a verificação, no uso, de valores discursivo-pragmáticos das construções concessivas; a verificação, no uso, de funções eminentemente argumentativas da expressão da concessividade, vistas na sua relação com a expressão da adversatividade; a verificação, no uso, e com direcionamento mais fortemente embasado no cognitivismo, de construções concessivas que se distanciam do fundo lógico-semântico definidor da natureza da concessividade; a verificação, no uso, do envolvimento da intersubjetividade na expressão concessiva, visto na sua ligação com a face interacional e dialógica dessa expressão. Esses objetivos foram cumpridos, destacando-se, especialmente, nos resultados: a demonstração da complexidade hipotetizada da expressão de concessividade; a explicitação do funcionamento de construções concessivas de maior tipicidade e de construções concessivas discursivamente mais marcadas; a demonstração da construção concessiva como configuradora de embate de pontos de vista na linguagem, e, portanto, como de força intersubjetiva e dialógica.

ABSTRACT
In this dissertation we investigate concessive constructions in contemporary Brazilian Portuguese considering that concessive relation is a case of complex clause combination that deserves attention in the grammar of natural languages. The theoretical basis for the exam is the functional theory of language, which reformulates the rigid distinction between traditional subordination and coordination, observing the textual and discursive level and describing clausal combination with respect to syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Valuable tenets from Cognitive Linguistics, permeated by analytical principles of Functional Linguistics, are invoked and considered to clarify and drive the analysis of concessivity in order to deal with the category of intersubjectivity that, by hypothesis, is crucially intricate to the expression of concessivity. The corpus is composed of concessive constructions from both spoken and written contemporary Brazilian Portuguese and even though it is not our aim to deal with the differences between these modalities of language use, our hypothesis is that the complexity of the concessive relation is instantiated differently in each modality. The goals of this research comprise: the investigation of the concessive category in language; the verification, in language use, of logical-semantic values of this category; the verification, in language use, of discursive-pragmatic values of concessive constructions; the verification, in language use, of imminently argumentative functions with the expression of concessivity, articulated with the expression adversativity; the verification, in language use, supported by cognitive principles, of concessive constructions that distance from the prototypical local-semantic configuration of concessivity; the verification, in language use, of the involvement of intersubjectivity in the expression of concessivity, considering its interactive and dialogical expression. These goals have been attained as the following results: it has been demonstrated the complexity hypothesized of the concessivity; it has been explicated the function of more prototypical concessive constructions and more discursively marked constructions; it has been demonstrated that concessive constructions comprise different clashing viewpoints in language and therefore present an intersubjective and dialogic force.
