Resumo: A presente pesquisa de mestrado teve como objetivo fazer um estudo da poesia de tensão
social nas obras Dentro da noite veloz (1975) e Barulhos (1987), de Ferreira Gullar (1930-
2016), pseudônimo de José Ribamar Ferreira, que além de poeta, teve papel relevante como
teórico da poesia, da arte e da cultura em geral, ademais de ser dramaturgo, roteirista e pintor.
A pesquisa justifica-se pela relevância das obras mencionadas e do próprio poeta, bem como
pelos poucos estudos existentes acerca de sua produção. Os dois livros escolhidos para
compor o projeto, foram publicados em momentos históricos diferentes: o primeiro, contendo
poemas dos anos 60 e 70, é publicado pós-exílio; o segundo, dos anos 80, que, ao menos em
parte recupera a preocupação central de Ferreira Gullar com a questão da linguagem e da
metalinguagem, se afastando um pouco da poesia de tensão social, tão típica dos anos 60. Ou
seja, as duas questões fundamentais da poesia lírica, forma e conteúdo, estão entre as
preocupações da pesquisa. Em Dentro da noite veloz, Gullar reuniu poemas escritos entre os
anos de 1962 e 1974, que representam momentos de protesto e de recordação, compostos
durante o regime militar. Posteriormente, em sua produção poética com Barulhos, no qual há
vários metapoemas e a própria avaliação do trabalho de poeta, o autor demonstra uma postura
bastante crítica em relação ao mundo das letras. De modo específico, a partir dessas obras,
refletiu-se sobre problemas de construção formal, de linguagem e metalinguagem, tão caros
ao poeta no decorrer de sua vasta obra. De modo geral, abordou -se a inserção e a importância
do poeta Ferreira Gullar no panorama da poesia brasileira da segunda metade do século XX.

Abstract: The present master's research aimed to conduct a study of the social tension poetry in the
works Dentro da noite veloz (1975) and Barulhos (1987), by Ferreira Gullar (1930-2016),
pseudonym of José Ribamar Ferreira, who besides being a poet , played a relevant role as a
theorist of poetry, art and culture in general, in addition to being a playwright, screenwriter
and painter. The research is justified by the relevance of the works mentioned and the poet
himself, as well as the few existing studies on his production. The two books selected to
compose the project are from different historical moments: the first one, containing poems
from the 60s and 70s, is published in the author’s post-exile; the second, from the 80s, which,
at least in part, recovers Ferreira Gullar's central concern with the issue of language and
metalanguage, moving a little away from the poetry of social tension, so typical of the 1960s.
In this context, the two fundamental issues of the lyric poetry, form and content, are among
the concerns of this research. In Dentro da noite veloz, Gullar collected poems written
between 1962 and 1974, they present moments of protest and remembrance and were
composed during the military regime. Subsequently, in his poetic production Barulhos, which
brings several metapoems and the evaluation of the poet’s work, the author shows a critical
approach in relation to the world of literature. Specifically, from these works, it was possible
to reflect on problems of formal construction, language and metalanguage, so relevants to the
poet during his vast work production. In general, the insertion and importance of the poet
Ferreira Gullar was addressed in the panorama of Brazilian poetry of the second half of the
20th century.
