ABSTRACT
Virgil (70-19 BC), the poet of the Classical Period in Latin Literature, is known for the composition of Eclogues, Georgics and Aeneid. His works came to us through an unbroken chain of copies and are among the oldest papyrus manuscripts in the transmission chain of Classical Culture. His works have extended a wide influence to other poets, which shows that the vitality of his texts inspired and still inspires poets and other artists.
The present study is concerned with investigating, in the so-called Virgil's Wheel, the three types of style described by Ancient Rhetoric, namely: the simple, medium and grandiloquent style. Following the doctrine of ancient grammarians, John of Garland, a 13th-century philologist, describes the Virgil’s Wheel, a tripartite circular scheme that presents the Eclogues in simple style, the Georgics, in the middle and the Aeneid in the grandiloquent. In this Garland’s scheme, each Virgilian work is described from its representative setting. Thus, when mapping the emblematic characteristics of each of the works, the philologist draws our attention to the fact that Virgil recorded different performance scenarios, setting models. With this, the present work seeks to broaden the understanding about the different themes and figures that permeate the three works and, for that, proposes a reinterpretation of the bucolic, didactic and epic scenery, comprising the three types of style defined by the ancient writers as effects of meaning engendered in the texts.
The work also aims to analyze, in extracts from Virgil's three works, the special arrangement of poetic language, taking into account the expressive construction of the texts, their figurativity. It is intended, through Poetics and Semiotics, to seek an understanding of what could be called the imagery vocation of a literary text. We also present a translation of selected excerpts from the three works, accompanied by the necessary cultural references (geographic, mythological and historical).
The research is a study on the poetic structure of Virgilian works, with emphasis, therefore, on the presence of figurativity in bucolic, didactic and epic poetry.

Keywords: Eclogues. Georgics. Aeneid. Figurativity. Semiotics.
