RESUMO
O romance urbano romântico brasileiro do século XIX tem uma relação, de certa forma, diversa com o modelo europeu, que o influenciou. Enquanto na Europa o romance assumiu uma postura de crítica da sociedade burguesa, justamente a partir dos valores e dos costumes dessa classe, no Brasil, o gênero serviu como instrumento de idealização da realidade, camuflando as contradições das relações sociais. Assim, os valores e os costumes da classe dominante, formadores de um discurso pretensamente homogêneo, tentaram esconder as debilidades das instituições brasileiras da época e, por conseguinte, todos os contrastes da efervescência diária.
Por meio dessa inversão de perspectiva do romance moderno, a vertente romântica formou uma tradição, que consubstancia os modismos europeus com a cor local. Isto é, uma representação da realidade divergente da sociedade que tencionava recriar. Com efeito, esse processo é a chave da aproximação e de afastamento entre o romance urbano romântico brasileiro e o europeu. O presente estudo tem por finalidade analisar, exatamente, a representação da realidade do romance Ressurreição, o primeiro de Machado de Assis, no que diz respeito a essa consubstanciação da tradição da vertente urbana do romantismo brasileiro. Para tal investigação, dar-se-á atenção à elaboração do narrador e do protagonista de Ressurreição, bem como à relação entre eles. Mediante isso, procurar-se-á estabelecer a aproximação e o afastamento do referido romance a essa mesma tradição.

ABSTRACT
The Brazilian romantic urban novel of the nineteenth century has a different relation to the European one, which influenced it. While in Europe, the novel took a critical attitude towards bourgeois society, precisely from the values and morals of this class, in Brazil, the gender served as a kind of idealization procedure of reality that masked the contradictions of social relations. Thus, the values and customs of the ruling class, forming a speech supposedly homogeneous, tried to hide the weaknesses of Brazilian institutions of the time and, therefore, all the contrasts of daily effervescence.
Through this reversal of perspective of the modern novel, the Brazilian romantic novel formed a tradition, substantiating the aesthetical European-like fashion with the local color. That is, a representation of reality that diverges from the society that it intended to recreate. Indeed, this process is the key to the approach and the separation of the Brazilian romantic urban novel from the European one. The present study aims to analyze, precisely, the representation of reality in the novel Ressurreição, the first of Machado de Assis, regarding this substantiating of the tradition in the urban dimension of Brazilian romanticism. For this research, the purpose is to give attention to the development of the narrator and the protagonist of Ressurreição and the relation between them. Through this, the intent is to establish the approach and the separation of the mentioned novel from this tradition.
