Resumo: Este trabalho faz uma reflexão sobre a teoria de luta por reconhecimento, de Axel Honneth, identificando e definindo os conceitos centrais de suas formulações, como moralidade, sofrimento, luta, autonomia e autorrealização. Ao fazer isso, o estudo busca explicitar o significado e a abrangência que o termo identidade assume em sua teoria, diferenciando-a de outras proposições que tratam de reconhecimento e identidade. Além do estudo teórico investigativo e comparativo, é feita a análise dos protestos de maio de 2019 no Brasil, ocorridos após o anúncio do contingenciamento de verba pelo governo federal e o recolhimento de bolsas de pesquisa. A união entre teoria e empiria permite a reflexão sobre o significado dos conceitos articulados pelo autor ao mesmo tempo em que contribui para refletir sobre a realidade atual. Utilizando a técnica de grupo focal, investiga-se a motivação de estudantes universitários participantes das manifestações de rua, no intuito de desvendar seus sentimentos. A investigação empírica levanta discussões sobre a situação da pesquisa científica no Brasil e as mudanças sociais estruturais trazidas pela modernidade, que afetam a universidade e a expectativa de vida dos estudantes. Essa discussão evidencia a relevância social do conceito de reconhecimento e examina o vínculo entre o sofrimento individual e a luta social.

Abstract: This work reflects on Axel Honneth's theory of struggle for recognition, identifying and defining the main concepts of his formulations, such as morality, suffering, struggle, autonomy and self-realization. In doing so, the study seeks to clarify the meaning and scope of the term identity in his theory, differentiating it from other propositions that deal with recognition and identity. In addition to the theoretical investigative and comparative study, an analysis is carried out on the protests of May 2019 in Brazil, which took place after the announcement of university cuts. The union between theory and empiricism allows reflection on the meaning of the concepts articulated by the author, while contributing to reflect on current reality. Using the focus group technique, the motivation of university students participating in demonstrations is investigated, in order to reveal their feelings. The empirical investigation raises discussions about the situation of scientific research in Brazil and the structural social changes brought about by modernity, which affect the university and the life expectancy of students. This discussion highlights the social relevance of the concept of recognition and examines the link between individual suffering and social struggle.
