Resumo.
A violência doméstica se constitui, como um grave problema social que afeta milhares de mulheres cotidianamente em todo o mundo. É uma das mais graves manifestações de violência de gênero, e atinge as mulheres em todas as idades, classes sociais, raças/etnias, graus de escolaridade, orientação sexual e religião.
Na pesquisa que empreendemos abordamos a problemática da violência doméstica contra mulheres, tendo como campo de análise o Centro de Referência da Mulher Heleieth Saffioti. Objetivamos traçar um perfil sócio econômico das mulheres atendidas no órgão, no período de junho de 2001 a dezembro de 2006, ressaltando: a idade, o estado conjugal, a renda individual, a raça/etnia, o grau de escolaridade e a ocupação profissional das mulheres. Buscamos conhecer e compreender os mecanismos estruturais da organização social de gênero, incorporados pelas mulheres atendidas no órgão, vítimas de violência doméstica cometida pelo (ex) companheiro. Utilizando como referencial teórico metodológico, o conceito de relações de gênero, de habitus e violência simbólica analisamos as maneiras pelas quais as mulheres ressignificam/subvertem o conjunto de esquemas classificatórios que consagram a dominação masculina, nas relações de violência.

Abstract
In present the research we have approached the problem of the domestic violence against women. The analysis field is the Center of Reference of the Woman " Heleieth Saffioti ". We aimed at drawing a social-economic profile about the women partner assisted in the organ, in the period of June of 2001 to December of 2006, standing out: the age, the matrimonial state, the individual income, the race/ethnicity, the education degree and the women's professional occupation. We looked for understanding the structural mechanisms of the social organization of gender, incorporate for the women assisted in the organ, victims of domestic violence committed by the (former) companion. Using as theoretical methodological basis, the concept of gender relationships, of " habitus " and symbolic violence we analyzed the ways for the which the women remean/subvert the group of qualifying outlines that show the masculine dominance, in the violence relationships.
